PART2 : The Janitor's Daughter Was About To Become CEO — Then The Lights Went Out
PART2 :
The terminal was so quiet that no one dared to move.
The woman in diamonds stared at Ava, her mouth slightly open.
“CEO?” she whispered.
Richard Carter looked at her calmly.
“Yes. CEO.”
A nervous laugh escaped from one of the passengers.
“Come on. She’s just a teenager.”
Richard smiled.
“She built the software that helped our company detect security flaws before anyone else could. Last year alone, it saved us millions.”
The passenger’s smile vanished.
Ava looked down, embarrassed by the attention.
“Dad, you don’t have to tell everyone.”
“I absolutely do,” Richard replied.
“For years, people judged your mother because she chose to work as a janitor. They assumed our family’s value came from money instead of character.”
The room grew even quieter.
Then Richard pointed toward Ava’s notebook.
“Do you know what she does every weekend?”
Nobody answered.
“She tutors students for free.”
Several passengers exchanged uncomfortable looks.
“She could spend her time traveling the world, but instead she helps kids earn scholarships.”
The woman in diamonds suddenly shifted in her seat.
“Wait… your wife is really a janitor?”
Richard nodded.
“She says every job deserves respect. So she kept working, even after we became wealthy.”
Ava smiled proudly.
“My mom taught me that how you treat people matters more than what’s in your bank account.”
Nobody had anything to say.
The same people who had laughed at her minutes earlier now refused to meet her eyes.
Then Richard’s phone buzzed.
He checked the screen and frowned.
Ava noticed immediately.
“Dad, what happened?”
Richard looked at her.
“The board meeting was moved up.”
Ava raised an eyebrow.
“The vote is today?”
Richard nodded slowly.“Yes.”
The passengers watched in confusion.
Then Richard revealed something that made the entire terminal gasp.
“If the vote passes, by tonight you’ll officially become the youngest executive in company history.”
A wave of whispers spread across the terminal. “The youngest executive?” “She’s only seventeen.” “That can’t be real.” Ava remained calm, but her stomach tightened. She had known the vote was coming. She just never expected it to happen today. Richard placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “You earned this.” Before Ava could respond, another voice interrupted. “Not everyone agrees.” The room turned toward the entrance. A man in an expensive suit had just walked into the terminal. Richard’s expression hardened immediately. Ava recognized him at once. Daniel Mercer, a senior board member and her father’s biggest critic. Daniel stopped a few feet away and looked directly at Ava. “I figured I’d find you here,” he said. Richard folded his arms. “What do you want?” Daniel glanced at Ava. “I want the board to make decisions based on experience, not family connections.” Several passengers leaned forward, listening carefully. Daniel continued, “Your daughter is talented. Nobody disputes that. But putting a teenager in charge of a multibillion-dollar company is a dangerous gamble.” Ava met his stare without flinching. “You think I haven’t earned my place.” Daniel shrugged. “I think you’ve had advantages most people never get.” Ava calmly reached into her faded backpack and pulled out a thick folder. She handed it to him. Daniel opened it and began turning the pages. His confidence quickly faded. The folder contained patents, software designs, research papers, business proposals, and letters of recommendation from some of the most respected names in the tech industry. His eyes widened. “You created all of this?” Ava nodded. “Every page.” For the first time, Daniel had no response. The passengers who had mocked her earlier exchanged uncomfortable glances. But after a long silence, Daniel closed the folder and looked at Richard. “Impressive,” he admitted. Richard smirked. “I know.” Then Daniel’s expression turned serious again. “Unfortunately, none of that matters now.” The smile vanished from Richard’s face. “What are you talking about?” Daniel took a deep breath. “The board received evidence this morning that someone inside the company has been leaking confidential information.” The terminal fell silent. Ava felt her heart drop. Then Daniel looked directly at her and said, “And the evidence points to someone much closer to this family than you realize.” The shocked expression on Richard’s face told Ava one thing immediately. Whoever the real traitor was, it wasn’t her. And her father already knew the name.
Silence pressed down on the terminal like a heavy weight. Ava looked at her father, searching his face for answers, but Richard Carter had gone completely still. Daniel Mercer watched them closely, almost waiting for the reaction he had been hoping for.
Ava finally spoke, her voice steady but quiet. “Dad… what is he talking about?”
Richard didn’t answer right away. His jaw tightened as he stared at Daniel.
“Show me the evidence,” Richard said flatly.
Daniel didn’t hesitate. He handed over a tablet.
On the screen were emails, encrypted messages, and internal documents marked “CONFIDENTIAL.” Ava scanned them quickly, her mind racing. The data wasn’t just leaked—it was carefully selected, strategic… and recent.
Richard’s expression darkened.
“This doesn’t prove anything,” he said.
Daniel raised an eyebrow. “It traces back to an access point registered under your family’s private network.”
A ripple of shock moved through the passengers.
Ava felt her breath catch. “That’s impossible. I’ve never accessed those systems outside secured labs.”
Richard looked at her sharply. Not angry… but calculating. Like he was connecting pieces only he could see.
Then his phone buzzed again.
He checked it.
And for the first time, Ava saw something she had never seen before.
Fear.
Richard lowered the phone slowly.
“…They’re targeting us,” he said under his breath.
Ava stepped closer. “Who is?”
Before he could answer, the airport lights flickered once… then twice.
And every security screen in the terminal suddenly went black.
A second later, a single message appeared across all monitors:
“WE KNOW SHE’S HERE.”
Gasps erupted everywhere. People backed away from the windows. Security guards rushed in, scanning the perimeter outside the jet terminal.
Daniel’s confident expression disappeared completely. “This wasn’t part of the board issue,” he muttered.
Richard grabbed Ava’s arm—not forcefully, but protectively. “Stay close to me.”
Ava’s voice dropped. “Dad… what did you hide from me?”
Richard looked at her for a long moment.
Then he said the words that changed everything.
“I didn’t want you involved… because the leak isn’t just corporate.”
He paused.
“It’s personal.”
Outside the glass walls of the terminal, the black SUVs suddenly went dark.
And one of the security guards slowly turned around… raising his radio with shaking hands.
“Sir,” he whispered. “We’ve got a breach. Full perimeter compromise.”
Ava’s heart pounded.
Richard pulled her behind him.
Because whoever had just sent that message… was already inside the airport.
